Premier's statement concerning Senate appointments (08/12/22)

NB 1867

Dec. 22, 2008

FREDERICTON (CNB) - Following is a statement from Premier Shawn Graham on Prime Minister Stephen Harper's new Senate appointments from New Brunswick:

I would like to extend my congratulations to John Wallace and Percy Mockler, New Brunswick's newest members of the Senate of Canada.

Mr. Mockler has served New Brunswickers with distinction, most notably as a member of the Legislative Assembly, to which he was first elected in 1982. I have known Mr. Mockler for many years, and it has been an honour serving with him in the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Wallace has earned a reputation as a stalwart of the community in the Saint John region. He has had a distinguished law career, but perhaps most impressive was his dedication to community service in a number of areas as he worked to make Saint John a better place to be.

I am confident that both Mr. Wallace and Mr. Mockler will serve this province well as members of the Senate. They have a keen understanding of the issues facing the province, and will provide strong voices for New Brunswick.

I also commend Prime Minister Harper for his choices to fill New Brunswick's vacant Senate seats. I look forward to continuing to work closely with our New Brunswick representatives in the federal government to make our province stronger and more self-sufficient.
