Premier's statement on selection of Jack MacDougall as Green Party leader (09/09/24)

NB 1412

Sept. 24, 2009

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following is a statement from Premier Shawn Graham on the selection of Jack MacDougall of Fredericton as leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick:

I offer my congratulations to Jack MacDougall on his election as the first leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick.

As a long-time political worker, leader and activist, Mr. MacDougall will bring his strong organizational background to the task of building the Green Party in our province. As party leader, Mr. MacDougall will certainly help give the Greens a stronger base and voice in our democratic system.

Over the past three years, our government has made the environment a clear priority. We have had success with implementing the New Brunswick Climate Change Action Plan; we have acted to clean up Saint John Harbour and to restore the Petitcodiac River; and we have launched award-winning energy efficiency programs.

As premier and on behalf of all New Brunswickers, I offer best wishes to Mr. MacDougall and to the Greens as they prepare their party to take part in the next general election in 2010. I look forward to working with Mr. MacDougall through the political process to continue to advance green issues as a province.
