FREDERICTON (CNB) - New Brunswickers will have their say on the proposed energy agreement between New Brunswick and Quebec, Premier Shawn Graham announced today.

"I am the first to recognize that the people of New Brunswick own this utility, and as we go through the process, we want to hear their input," Graham said. "We're inviting New Brunswickers to connect with us by telephone or through the Internet to learn more about the proposed agreement and offer feedback."

New Brunswickers may call 1-800-533-3086 or visit to get more information and provide feedback on the proposed agreement.

Graham also announced that the proposed regulatory framework spelled out in the memorandum of understanding signed today by him and Québec Premier Jean Charest would be referred to a legislative committee for review and feedback. The committee will be asked to report before implementing legislation is tabled so that the views of New Brunswickers can be incorporated.

"The elected representatives of New Brunswickers will have an important role to play as we move forward because many legislative changes would be required to implement this agreement," Graham said. "I encourage New Brunswickers to reach out to us by telephone, through the Internet or by contacting their MLAs, who will have a key role in the process going forward."

The committee will be directed to begin its report as soon as possible after the legislature sitting begins on Nov. 17.
