NOTRE-DAME (CNB) - Details of the provincial government's investments in job creation and infrastructure improvements will be unveiled in the legislative assembly this week, Premier Shawn Graham announced today.
Graham made the announcement after touring Allain Equipment in Notre-Dame, beginning a week when details of provincial government investments in the economy will be released in the legislative assembly. General details were outlined in the 2010-11 provincial budget, released Dec. 1. Specific initiatives will be announced in departmental budget estimates being tabled beginning this week.
"Our government is focused on three priorities this year: jobs, learning and health and senior care," Graham said. "Certainly, we will be seizing every opportunity to create jobs, especially because of the current global economic situation."
The provincial government has previously announced a two-year, $1.6-billion investment in infrastructure - to create jobs and to build the foundation for self-sufficiency. It is estimated that these infrastructure investments created 6,000 jobs in 2009 and will create and maintain another 9,000 in 2010.
Other key elements of the provincial government's agenda on the economy for the coming year are:
"I look forward to debating these important investments for our future in the legislative assembly, beginning tomorrow," Graham said. "Our government has and will continue to make the changes and investments we need today to achieve self-sufficiency tomorrow."
