NB 131

Jan. 29, 2010

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following message regarding the appointment of Rogersville-Kouchibouguac MLA Rose-May Poirier to the Senate of Canada was issued today by Premier Shawn Graham.

As Premier of New Brunswick, I congratulate Rose-May Poirier on being appointed one of the newest members of the Senate of Canada, effective Feb. 28, 2010.

Although we have disagreed on matters of public policy, I have always held Ms. Poirier in high regard for her work on behalf of all New Brunswickers, and her dedication to our province.

I believe that in her role as senator, Ms. Poirier will be well served by these qualities, and by her wealth of experience as a former businesswoman, volunteer, fundraiser, member of the Saint-Louis de Kent town council, cabinet minister, and member of the legislative assembly since 1999.

I look forward to working with Ms. Poirier in her capacity as senator. On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I wish her all the best and thank her for everything she's done as the Member for Rogersville-Kouchibouguac to help make our province an even better place to be.
