FREDERICTON (CNB) - New Brunswick's chief electrical inspector has ordered that a number of non-certified animated motion lamps and table motion lamps be removed from store shelves and that they not be offered for sale in the province.

The non-certified lamps were on sale at various retail locations throughout the province, including Hart Stores, Bargain Giant, Rossy, and Irving Big Stops. Click here to see product photos.

The products are manufactured in China and are not certified for use in the Province of New Brunswick. The lamps, which have not been tested to Canadian electrical safety standards, may overheat and melt the enclosure, posing a fire hazard. There has been one reported incident of failure in the province.

Consumers should stop using these products immediately and return them to the place of purchase.

In New Brunswick, all electrical products are required to be certified by a recognized certification organization. More information on the recognized certification marks for electrical products in the Province of New Brunswick is available on the Government of New Brunswick website at: http://www.gnb.ca/PublicSafety.
