"Achieving a self-sufficient province means building safe and secure communities for all New Brunswickers," said Foran. "Our government values partnerships with organizations such as the New Brunswick Safety Council to help achieve this goal, and I am pleased to provide this funding that will further its safety promotion programs."

The funding helps the council to provide training, and facilitates the organization's participation in a variety of safety promotion campaigns and activities.

"We are very appreciative of the support provided by the Department of Public Safety," said Dennis Kelly, chairman of the council's board of directors. "This funding is very important to us, and allows us to continue to participate in important activities that contribute to the safety of our residents in both public and traffic issues."

The Department of Public Safety collaborates with a number of partners on initiatives that enhance safety. Some of these partners include community organizations and universities, as well as federal, interdepartmental and municipal agencies.
