FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following is issued by the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (NB-EMO) on Thursday, April 23, 2009:
Water levels are rising throughout the St. John River basin. NB-EMO reminds people living and working near water to prepare now for flooding.
Homeowners are reminded that they are responsible for securing their properties and for moving belongings above high-water levels.
Residents may telephone SNB to find out flood-related information such as river flows, provincial water levels and other important safety information.
The toll-free line, 1-888-298-8555, is available weekdays, 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Recorded flood information is also available 24 hours a day on the toll-free NB-EMO line, 1-888-561-4048.
Residents should also listen to local forecasts, and check flood levels, maps and other information online at http://www.gnb.ca/Riverwatch.
