EDMUNDSTON (CNB) - The Department of Public Safety recently presented the New Brunswick Police Leadership Awards.
The awards formally acknowledge law enforcement activities and successes that contribute to collectively building a safer New Brunswick. The awards are unique to policing in New Brunswick.
"We are pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication of our police forces," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General John W. Foran. "Their focus is a key element in our efforts to build a safer New Brunswick, where all residents can be safe and secure."
Awards are presented for excellence in both organizational innovation and criminal investigations.
The award for Excellence in Organizational Innovation was presented to RCMP J Division's Special "I" unit, which was recognized for its use of technology and sensitive techniques to gather intelligence and evidence for criminal investigations, particularly against organized crime.
RCMP District 9 was given the award for Excellence in Criminal Investigations for its professionalism, compassion and engagement during the course of its investigation into the "Boys in Red" fatal collision in Bathurst in January 2008. Team members are Sgt. Scott Sawyer, Cpl. Annie Neilson, and Const. Yves Allain.
"We appreciate the contributions that police make to building a safer New Brunswick, and we are pleased to celebrate their achievements and partnerships with the province," said Foran.
