FREDERICTON (CNB) - The Department of Public Safety is celebrating 10 years of providing safety services to New Brunswickers.
The department was created on April 1, 2000, bringing together several safety- and compliance-related services previously based in other departments.
"Our departmental mission is 'working together to build a safer New Brunswick,' and we are certainly proud of how far our department has come," said Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General John W. Foran. "Today we provide a range of accessible programs and services. This anniversary marks the accomplishments of our dedicated team of professionals who help to make New Brunswick one of the safest places in which to live."

The department has a budget of about $145 million and employs more than 1,000 people; it has regional offices throughout the province.
