FREDERICTON (CNB) - An investment of $17,500 will be made toward infrastructure improvements for Royals Field in Fredericton. Education Minister Kelly Lamrock made the announcement today, on behalf of Finance Minister Victor Boudreau, who is minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
"We are very pleased to be partnering with the City of Fredericton in this important infrastructure project," said Lamrock. "Ensuring we have good recreational facilities helps improve our quality of life, strengthens our communities, and helps us work toward our goal of self-sufficiency."
Fredericton city councillors David Kelly and Steven Hicks; and John Collins, chair of the 2009 Midget National Baseball Tournament to be played at Royals Field next August, joined Lamrock for the presentation.
"We are very pleased to partner with the province to upgrade historic Royals Field," said Kelly, chair of the Fredericton's community services committee. "We are looking forward to hosting the 2009 midget championships, and this contribution will allow us to significantly improve one of the most prestigious and beautiful baseball parks in the province."
Under the Regional Development Corporation's Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program (FYCAP), funding will be used toward a $35,000 infrastructure improvement project. FYCAP gives community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts, and municipalities engaged in youth- and family-related activities an opportunity to apply for funding for eligible capital costs of projects in support of youth- and family-related activities.
