PETIT-ROCHER (CNB) - An investment of $74,685 will be made toward the construction of six cottages overlooking the Bay of Chaleur in Petit-Rocher. Environment Minister Roland Haché, who is also minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Initiative, made the announcement today.
"This new project will provide additional accommodations in the Chaleur region, and give visitors to our province more reasons to incorporate the Chaleur region into their travel plans," said Haché. "The tourism industry in New Brunswick is an important part of our government's goal of self-sufficiency, and vital to economic development in our province."
Joining Haché for the announcement were Charles Roy, owner of Motel et Chalets l'Acadien Sur Mer; and Pierre Godin, mayor of Petit-Rocher.
"We would like to thank the provincial government for supporting our project," said Roy." This cottage project will allow us to attract more visitors and tourists to the Chaleur region."
Funding for construction is provided under the Restigouche-Chaleur Economic Development Fund (RCEDF). The $30-million fund supports projects focusing on diversification, infrastructure, research and development, and training and education. The fund expires on April 30, 2009.
