EDMUNDSTON (CNB) - The provincial government is investing $500,000 in a revitalization project in downtown Edmundston.
Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Donald Arseneault, who is also the minister responsible for the Northern New Brunswick Initiative, made the announcement.
"Ensuring that necessary public infrastructure is in place to support stronger communities is one objective identified in An Action Plan for Self-Sufficiency in Northern New Brunswick 2010-2013," said Arseneault.
The Regional Development Corporation is providing the funding to help with Edmundston's downtown revitalization project.
Phase I calls for the upgrading and beautification of the intersection of Rue de l'Église and Canada Road. The $1-million project calls for sidewalk repairs, improving the intersection, safer walkway, and the addition of trees to the landscape.
"With this generous contribution from the Regional Development Corporation and through a sustained partnership with the Province of New Brunswick, our Downtown Development Corporation and the city, we will be able to start this highly anticipated phase of our revitalization project and to beautify and stimulate the downtown area's development - a key element in our new long-term planning strategy," Edmundston Mayor Jacques Martin.
