SAINT JOHN (CNB) - The provincial government is investing $300,000 in support of efforts by the Rainbow Park Committee to revitalize the South End Playground and Community Space in Saint John.
The announcement was made by Supply and Services Minister Ed Doherty, Saint John Mayor Ivan Court and representatives of the Rainbow Park Committee.
"Our government sees great potential for this region of Saint John, and we are pleased to support an initiative that will provide green space and recreational facilities for the South End community," said Doherty. "We are proud to make investments that support the development of new and growing neighbourhoods across our province."
Doherty attended on behalf of Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. The corporation is providing the funding to upgrade the park's playground and park.
The project, Rainbow Park, will include rehabilitated play equipment with barrier-free access; a small stage; community garden plots; and games tables and benches.
"We have outlined the tools for a vibrant Saint John, and they include fostering a real sense of community within our city," said Court. "This generous contribution from the Regional Development Corporation, as well as our sustained partnership with the Province of New Brunswick, will help us move forward with a project that will offer immense benefits to the people of Saint John."
