FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government is investing $10,000 to help the Frederiction Community Soup Kitchen buy new kitchen equipment so that it may meet the needs of its clients better.
Environment Minister Rick Miles made the announcement today on behalf of Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
"This investment will allow the Fredericton Community Kitchen to buy new kitchen equipment so that it may produce more efficiently the number of meals needed by its clients," Miles said. "Soup kitchens are key community support organizations. They are where those of us who have been blessed with abundance can help the needy in our community."
More than 92,000 adults and 26,000 youth use New Brunswick food banks and community kitchens each year. These organizations provide food to those who need it, whether they need it to survive or to get by when life gets difficult.
"This organization goes beyond simply providing food," Miles said of the Fredericton Community Soup Kitchen. "It is a resource for those in our community who live in poverty, where they can get the supports they need to survive and improve their lot in life."
