FREDERICTON (CNB) - The deadline on responses to the request for proposals (RFP) to engage a consultant to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of proposed modifications to the Petitcodiac River Causeway has been extended to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2002.
The extension of the RFP by two weeks is a result of requests from potential bidders for extra time to allow for a thorough preparation of their submissions.
The principal objectives of the EIA study are to analyze several options in relation to potential modifications to the causeway, including: a new fishway, opening of the causeway gates during peak fish migratory periods, opening the causeway gates permanently, and construction of a partial bridge, as each relates to the status quo.
The consultant will ensure a comprehensive, professional evaluation of all the issues around the proposed modifications to the causeway and potential impacts in the watershed area. The consultant will also ensure full stakeholder and public consultation throughout the process.
Responses to the RFP must now be received by the Department of Supply and Services by 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.
The appointment of the consultant is expected this fall, following a thorough evaluation of the proposals.
