FREDERICTON (CNB) - Six companies have submitted expressions of interest to build new schools in Rexton and Moncton North.
Eleanor W. Graham Middle School in Rexton and the new Moncton North School will be built as a public-private partnership, with the selected developer designing, building, financing, operating and maintaining both schools.
"We are very pleased to have such a great response from the private sector for these two projects," said Supply and Services Minister Ed Doherty. "The submissions will be evaluated by the department before a second-stage request for proposals is issued next month. From this, a private-sector partner will be identified."
The companies responding to the call for expression of interest are:
The Eleanor W. Graham Middle School will cover 5,500 square metres (51,150 square feet) on one floor. Its energy-efficient design is intended to achieve a silver rating under the principles of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a rating system used to measure green building performance in Canada.
The Moncton North School will cover 9,000 square metres (96,840 square feet) on two floors. It will accommodate students from kindergarten to Grade 8. The school will be designed and constructed to meet a LEED silver standard.
Construction on both schools is expected to begin in the late summer of 2009 with completion by the fall of 2010.
