FREDERICTON (CNB) - Five companies have been shortlisted by the provincial government to build two schools.
The province selected the firms after receiving responses to its request for expressions of interest from the private sector for the construction of schools in Rexton and Moncton North. The companies are:
"We are very pleased to be moving forward with the Eleanor W. Graham Middle School in Rexton and the new Moncton North School," said Supply and Services Minister Ed Doherty. "The request for proposals will be issued, and, through this process, a private-sector partner will be identified to build both schools."
The schools will be built as a public-private partnership. The successful developer will be responsible for the design, construction, financing, operations and maintenance of the schools.
The Eleanor W. Graham Middle School will be a one-storey building including:
The Moncton North school will accommodate children from kindergarten to Grade 8 school. It will be two storeys, including:
The Eleanor W. Graham Middle School and the Moncton North School will be designed and built to achieve a silver rating under the principles of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a rating system used by industry to measure green building performance in Canada.
Construction on both schools is expected to begin in late summer, with completion by the fall of 2010.
