FREDERICTON (CNB) - The ordinary account budget for the Department of Supply and Services for 2009-10 will be $113,912,000, a 4.4 per cent increase over the previous year.
The announcement was made yesterday by Supply and Services Minister Ed Doherty.
"Our departmental budget is consistent with government objectives during these very challenging economic times," said Doherty. "Supply and Services is supporting the government's goal of achieving self-sufficiency by constantly striving to provide services within government as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible."
The budget increase reflects increases to municipal grants in lieu of property taxes; costs associated with facilities management; and funding for upgrades to IT infrastructure.
"The government has committed to stimulating our provincial economy by getting New Brunswickers to work, and Supply and Services is on the front line of that effort," said Doherty.
Doherty emphasized the volume of capital projects that will be implemented by Supply and Services in 2009-10, which will include new construction and improvements to existing government buildings, totalling almost $203 million. These investments are part of government's overall plan to provide leadership for a stronger economy, with $1.2 billion during the next two years planned for strategic infrastructure investments and support for businesses.
