FREDERICTON (CNB) - Some limited services will be available to the public at Mactaquac Provincial Park during the upcoming winter season. Tourism and Parks Minister Stuart Jamieson made the announcement today.
"The gates of Mactaquac Provincial Park were always going to be open this winter," Jamieson said. "Now, thanks to the flexibility of park staff and some additional belt tightening by the department, we are going to provide some basic services to make it easier for people using the park."
During peak weekend activity, and weather permitting, staff will keep some access roads in the park open and plow parking space for visitors. One cross-country skiing trail will be groomed, and if time permits, staff will groom the sliding hill. Washroom facilities will be unlocked during the weekend.
Jamieson said that providing these basic services at Mactaquac was achieved while still meeting the demand of the last budget to trim operating expenses at the park by $600,000.
