FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following statement was issued by Tourism and Parks Minister Brian Kenny in recognition of Tourism Week, June 7-13:
New Brunswick is a place to be experienced, and I invite all New Brunswickers to enjoy our beautiful province during Tourism Week.
We are celebrating this week to recognize the importance of the tourism industry in New Brunswick. It produces almost $1 billion a year in revenue and employs more than 23,000 people. The industry is an essential part of developing the local economy, especially in rural areas.
There is so much to see and do in our province, it is easy to see why many choose it as their vacation destination. We have more than 2,000 km of coastline to explore, along with beautiful bays, rivers and the world's highest tides. There are many parks and natural wonders to enjoy throughout the province, as well as man- made wonders, such as the world's longest covered bridge.
New Brunswick is also a place rich in history and culture. There are many world-class museums and art galleries to explore. There is truly something for everyone in New Brunswick. We have more than 100 exciting experiences that can be found in our newly released Experience Collection. Visit our website or pick up the new 2010 Tourism Guide to find the ones that you want to experience this summer.
I encourage all New Brunswickers to experience our province in a new way, or to re-visit favourite places during this year's Tourism Week. There is no better time than now to experience New Brunswick.
