MIRAMICHI (CNB) - The Morrissy Bridge in Miramichi is permanently closing for safety reasons.
A detailed structural analysis carried out on the bridge for the Department of Transportation has concluded that the bridge's steel deck supports have corroded to the point where the bridge is no longer safe for use. It will not be replaced.
The Morrissy Bridge is a two-lane, steel truss bridge constructed in 1913. It was closed to trucks in 1995 with the opening of its replacement, the Miramichi Bridge, less than one kilometre upstream.
