People who live or work in areas affected by the flooding are advised that they should not go into or attempt to leave the area. Drivers are reminded that water levels can change very quickly, so motorists should use extreme caution whenever they encounter water on the road. They should also be on the lookout for wildlife being driven from low-lying areas due to high water levels.
School districts 11 and 16 advise that all of the students affected by road closures earlier today have either been taken home, or alternate arrangements have been made to house them with relatives or friends.
Some of the road closures may affect bus runs in the morning, depending on water levels and repairs required. Announcements will be made through normal channels, by the school districts.
Persons requiring information or assistance may contact the Miramichi District Emergency Operations Centre at 506-627-4103. This number is open until 10 p.m.
Those requiring emergency assistance should dial 9-1-1.
Water is also approaching or over several roads in the Bathurst area, but the roads remain open.
Officials from the departments of Transportation and Natural Resources will be monitoring bridges and roads in the areas for the next 24 hours. A list of traffic advisories may be found on the Department of Transportation website.
