FREDERICTON (CNB) - Motorists are reminded to drive carefully and to be considerate of other drivers during the holidays. Transportation Minister Denis Landry issued the reminder today.
"I encourage all drivers to be informed and be prepared for winter driving conditions,"
Landry said. "This is a time of the year to celebrate, and it is up to each of us to make travelling as safe as possible."
Since driver safety requires knowledge of road conditions, the government provides accurate information in two ways:
"Our web cameras and toll-free road hotline give motorists a better sense of what is happening on our routes, and informs them on whether they should delay their trips," said Landry.
Landry reminded all motorists to adjust their driving as weather conditions change. They should be particularly attentive of black ice when the temperature nears 0 degrees Celsius.
He also underlined the dangers of drinking and driving.
"If you choose to drink, don't take chances," he said. "Designated drivers, municipal transit operators and taxis are some options available to get you where you're going safely."
