REXTON (CNB) - The Richibucto River Bridge on Route 134 in Rexton will be closed to traffic for a major rehabilitation project. Transportation Minister Denis Landry made the announcement today.
The bridge will be closed from Monday, May 4, until Friday, Oct. 30, barring unforeseen delays. Signs informing motorists of detours will be posted at strategic locations.
"The contract work on the Richibucto River Bridge consists of the rehabilitation of the bridge deck, the approach spans, and cap work on the bridge piers," said Landry.
Landry announced that the contract was awarded to Atlantic Underground Services Ltd. of Riverview. The value of the work is estimated at $4.4 million.
The Richibucto River Bridge is one of eight bridge projects worth $22.6 million being undertaken this season in southeastern New Brunswick.
Funds for these projects are from the Department of Transportation's $385.8 million capital budget for 2009-10 construction season.
Built in 1956, the Richibucto River Bridge is a steel-through truss prestressed-concrete beam steel stringer bridge.
