CAPE SPEAR (CNB) - Construction on a new bridge at Oulton Brook, between Port Elgin and Cape Tormentine, will begin on Monday, Aug. 10, Transportation Minister Denis Landry has announced.
As a result of construction, Route 960 (Shore Road) will be closed for about eight weeks. An alternate detour route will be posted to inform motorists.
Landry said that department bridge crews will be installing a two-lane, galvanized steel stringer bridge. The value of the project is more than $200,000, with funds coming from the 2009-10 capital budget.
"The existing bridge was nearly 60 years old, and there were signs of deterioration with the abutments," said Landry. "We will be removing it and putting a modern, longer bridge in the same location, which should serve that area and motorists well."
