ELGIN (CNB) - Construction will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 16, on a replacement bridge on the River Road in Elgin.
The Department of Transportation will be erecting a modular panel bridge over the existing Pollett River # 8 Bridge.
"The current structure is 60 years old and has reached the end of its service life," said Transportation Minister Denis Landry. "In the last couple of years, it has had its weight bearing capacity reduced. During the next three weeks, this location will be fully closed to traffic as crews put the new bridge in place and upgrade the approaches."
Detour signs have been posted. Work is expected to completed by Friday, Oct. 9. The project is estimated to cost more than $125,000. It is funded under the Department of Transportation's 2009-10 capital budget.
