MEMRAMCOOK (CNB) - The provincial government today officially opened a new salt and sand storage site in the Village of Memramcook.
Transportation Minister Denis Landry participated in the event.
"The construction of these facilities has evolved, and these structures are more modern and improved compared to the typical wooden domes that we have used," said Landry "The Department of Transportation regards highway safety as its top priority, and this greater capacity will assist us with the supply and application of de-icing materials for effective use during winter months."
The maintenance site, constructed through an investment of $500,000, consists of rectangular storage buildings with concrete foundation walls and a galvanized steel frame covered with a fabric. The storage structure features an overhead door, is 24 metres by 33 metres in size, with a capacity of about 4,200 tonnes.
The tender for the project was awarded by the Department of Supply and Services to Gloucester Construction Ltd. of Tracadie-Sheila, out of four competitive bids.
