SUSSEX (CNB) - The historic Millstream River Covered Bridge, located on the Pleasant Ridge Branch Road near Sussex, has re-opened to traffic ahead of schedule.
"Department of Transportation crews successfully carried out the replacement of the cedar shingle roof on this treasured structure," said Transportation Minister Denis Landry. "This covered bridge was built in 1911. The department takes a great deal of care and pride preserving 59 covered bridges in New Brunswick."
Landry thanked department staff for completing the repairs quickly so that the bridge may be enjoyed by residents and tourists this summer.
"This capital project demonstrates that our government, through its third consecutive record capital budget of $439.3 million, is modernizing key infrastructures while supporting people and communities," he said.
