FREDERICTON (CNB) - The New Brunswick Art Bank has acquired 14 works of art by 11 contemporary New Brunswick artists, Hédard Albert, minister of wellness, culture and sport announced today.
The five-member jury selection committee chose the artworks from about 100 submissions. The value of the artworks totalled $20,680. The acquisitions were completed by the following artists:
"By purchasing works of art by contemporary New Brunswick artists, our government is providing support and encouragement for New Brunswick visual artists living and working in this province," said Albert. "Our new acquisitions are very impressive, and they evoke many different responses that demonstrate the power of creativity and artistic vision expressed by our artists."
The major criterion in the acquisition of artwork by the New Brunswick Art Bank is excellence in the visual arts. The selection committee also took into consideration the creativity, expertise and experience of New Brunswick artists as presented in their submissions to the 2007-08 New Brunswick Art Bank acquisitions program.
Members of the 2007-08 jury were professional artists and art professionals: WhiteFeather Hunter of Fredericton; Réjean Roy of Madran; Réjean Toussaint of Edmundston; Nisk Imbeault of Moncton; and Herzl Kashetsky of Saint John.
The public will be able to view the new acquisitions as part of an exhibition that will travel throughout the province in 2008 and 2009. The exhibition will be presented at the following locations:
The New Brunswick Art Bank serves as a record of artistic excellence in the visual arts in the province. The art bank contains more than 700 works of art in a variety of media. In addition to provincial exhibitions of the art bank, artwork is on view in government buildings.
