FREDERICTON (CNB) - The provincial government will award more than $76,000 to 82 New Brunswick athletes under the High Performance Athlete Assistance Program. Hédard Albert, wellness, culture and sport minister as well as minister responsible for the Francophonie, made the announcement today
"The High Performance Athlete Assistance Program is a tool that helps our New Brunswick athletes who are competing at the provincial and national levels reach their potential," said Albert.
The program helps athletes make the senior national team. Funding is provided to New Brunswick's top amateur athletes who are not nationally senior-carded. Athletes must be competing in a recognized sport in a discipline featured in a major game such as the Olympics, Paralympics or Canada Games. The individual grants range from $500 to $2,500.
Each funding request is evaluated through a process conducted by the respective provincial sport organization and a review panel of representatives from the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic and the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport.
