FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following message was issued by Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert for Heritage Week 2010, Feb. 8 - 15:
The theme of Heritage Week 2010 is Global Village. It was inspired by philosopher Marshall McLuhan, who used the expression in reference to the growing speed of technology. All these technological changes mean that we can communicate with people from anywhere at any time.
Technologies have grown in popularity over the past decade. With the advent of instant messaging, blogs, text messages, multi-purpose cell phones, and various other technologies, we have become more connected and accessible than ever before.
The symbol chosen for Heritage Week 2010 is a quilt crafted by Eliza Nase of Nerepis in Kings County. The quilt represents the handiwork, craftsmanship and dedication to detail of the women of past generations.
That is why we have chosen to feature the quilt and the Global Village theme on this year's poster.
I invite everyone to participate in the activities organized for the week to showcase our heritage.
