FREDERICTON (CNB) - Twenty-one works of art by 19 contemporary New Brunswick artists have been acquired through a jury selection by the New Brunswick Art Bank. Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert made the announcement today.
The provincial government invested $39,931 to purchase the art as part of the 2009-10 New Brunswick Acquisitions Program.
New Brunswick artists were invited to submit works of art created between 2007 and 2009. A five-member jury reviewed 113 submissions from all regions of the province. The jury invited 40 of the artists to present their original artworks to be viewed.

An exhibition of the acquisitions will be presented between September 2010 and February 2012 at galleries and art centres in the province:
The Galerie Bernard-Jean in Caraquet and the McCain Gallery in Florenceville have confirmed that they will display the 2009-10 acquisitions in 2011. The acquisitions will also be displayed elsewhere around the province.
"This exhibition is a great opportunity for our artists to be known throughout the province and to showcase their artworks," said Albert. "Our department is helping to raise awareness of the creativity of New Brunswick visual artists; this is why we are promoting them by exhibiting their artworks in different galleries and locations in the province."

The art bank serves as a record of artistic excellence of the visual arts of New Brunswick. It contains more than 750 works in a variety of media. In addition to exhibitions of the art bank throughout the province, artwork is on view in government offices and reception areas.
