FREDERICTON (CNB) - Five recipients of a multi-year funding agreement were announced today by Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert and Minister of State for Seniors Cheryl Lavoie, who is also minister responsible for the Community Non-Profit Organizations Secretariat.
"We are pleased to help non-profit sport and recreation organizations," said Albert. "Their work makes a significant contribution to the quality of life in our province. We truly believe that physical activity and sports are important and that all New Brunswickers should be physically active."
Albert said that the five non-profit sport and recreation organizations are doing valuable work that is strongly aligned with the mandate of the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport. They are:
"When organizations such as these are able to secure multi-year funding, they are better able to plan ahead and work effectively for the communities they serve," Lavoie said. "They have some stability to focus more fully on the programs and services they provide to make our province a better place. Multi-year funding can make a big difference in reaching their organizational goals."
The Sport and Recreation Branch of the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport has evaluated these organizations based on meeting minimum criteria, including their organizational strengths. The branch has also examined the extent to which these organizations align with its core business and strategic goals. Additional organizations may be considered for funding following further evaluation.
The Community Non-Profit Organizations Secretariat established a framework for multi-year funding agreements between government departments and non-profit organizations in 2009.
