FREDERICTON (CNB) - Four athletes from New Brunswick have qualified to participate in the 2010 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships.
This is the first time in the history of the championships that four New Brunswickers have qualified at once; they did so last weekend. They will be among 59 Canadians participating in the championships, being held in Moncton from Monday, July 19, to Sunday, July 25. About 2,800 athletes from 178 countries will compete in 44 events.
"It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the four New Brunswick athletes who will participate in the World Junior Championships," said Premier Shawn Graham. "They have already made us very proud. I am looking forward to watching them compete, and I am looking forward to welcoming the world to Moncton next weekend."

"I am proud of all our New Brunswick athletes who will participate in the World Junior Championships," said Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Hédard Albert. "It is a great example of what our youths' capacities are in terms of sports. We have great athletes, and I am convinced they have great potential to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. Their dedication to excellence and commitment to athletics make them wonderful role models for our young athletes."
The championships will be held at the new stadium on the Université de Moncton campus.
