Practised law in Saint John, N.B. from January 1964 until appointed to the New Brunswick Court of Appeal on May 5, 1993.
Earned a Commission in the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve) while attending university.
Chair of the Construction Division and Vice-Chair of the New Brunswick Industrial Relations Board from 1975-1989, and served as an arbitrator and Chair of Boards of Arbitration in labour and commercial adjudications.
Member of the Council of the New Brunswick Law Society 1971-74. Member of the National Council of the Canadian Bar Association, 1969-1981. President of the New Brunswick Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, 1973-75, and also a member of the Saint John Law Society, Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation, 1987-1990, an International Associate of the American Bar Association and International Bar Association.
Served as a Director of Canada Ports Corporation from May 30, 1987 until May 1993.
Appointed one of the six public directors of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada in June, 1992 for a two year term. .
Was a member of the Saint John Advisory Board to Canada Permanent Trust Company.
Served as a Director of the Greater Saint John Economic Development Commission, a member of the Saint John Board of Trade and a member of its Council, Executive Committee and as Treasurer.
President of the Turnbull Home, a charitable nursing home; Past Chair of the Board of Governors of Rothesay Collegiate School; former Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Fredericton.
Served as the New Brunswick member of the Federation of Law Societies Committee which studied and reported on the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice of Law in Canada. Served a three year term on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association.
Married to Charlotte (neé Gibbon). Three children and five grandchildren.
