Keynote Speakers Pre-conference Workshop Conference Program Conference at a glance Media Things to See and Do

The New Brunswick Human Rights Commission and the Atlantic Human Rights Centre at St Thomas University invite you to attend the national conference of the Canadian Association of Statutory Human Rights Agencies in Fredericton, June 14 – 16, 2006.

Human rights are the language of the present age. They speak to the inherent entitlements that are an inseparable part of being human.

But they are more than that. Human rights are also about making Canada a welcoming place for immigrants and a great place to live, work, play and visit for everyone.

The CASHRA 2006 human rights conference will examine the roots of human rights in Canada, celebrate our achievements, and look toward the challenges of the future.

Workshops and plenary sessions will focus on five themes:

  • Accommodating People with a Disability,
  • Balancing Security and Human Rights: Immigration and Multiculturalism,
  • The Acadian Story: Accomplishments and Challenges,
  • The Legacy of John Peters Humphrey, and
  • Human Rights in Practice.

Keynote speakers who have been confirmed so far include Speaker Noel Kinsella, Senator Roméo Dallaire and Gwynne Dyer. They are sure to move you, to inform you and to inspire you.

This national conference will help employers and unions understand their human rights obligations, service providers meet the needs of their clients, and human rights academics and practitioners keep up to date on current issues and best practices.

This is an important national event that will help advance the field of human rights into the future, while providing visitors the opportunity to experience New Brunswick’s culture and attractions firsthand.
