TABLE 2 - IMPACT OF GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS BY HEALTH DETERMINANT

INTRODUCTION

This initial inventory of government polices, programs and initiatives was developed in May and early June 2000, with input from government departments following a request for information from the Chair of the Select Committee on Health Care to Deputy Ministers. Departments submitted information and met with Committee support staff to complete the document.

The inventory is a "first look" at the impact of each government department on the wellness of New Brunswickers. The Committee will continue to build on the inventory to include all government agencies, and will continue to analyze the inventory. At this stage, the inventory does show us that all government departments have some impact on the determinants of health and on the wellness of New Brunswickers.

The document includes the following:

· A general description and mandate of each Department, including the programs, policies and initiatives identified by the department as impacting on health and wellness, and information on employee wellness;

· A table summarizing the primary impact on health and wellness by Department; and

·A table summarizing the impact of government departments by health determinant.
