The Honourable the Premier apprised the House of the status of the health of the Minister of Education, the Hon. James E. Lockyer.
Standing Committee on Law Amendments
After requesting Mr. Speaker revert to the order of Presentations of Committee Reports, Hon. Mr. Duffie, from the Standing Committee on Law Amendments, presented the First Report of the Committee for the session which was read and is as follows:

Your Committee on Law Amendments begs leave to submit this, their First Report.
Your Committee met on Friday, February 9, 1996 in the Legislative Council Chamber.
On motion of Mr. Kennedy, Hon. Mr. Duffie was elected Chairman of the Committee. On motion of Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Devereux was elected Vice-chairman.
And your Committee begs leave to make a further report.

Ordered that the Report be received, that leave be granted, and the Committee continued.
Hon. Mr. Blanchard moved to introduce a Bill entitled Supplementary Appropriations Act 1995-96.
Mr. Speaker having put the question, it was agreed by unanimous consent that the Bill be withdrawn.
Notices of Motions
Hon. Mr. Valcourt gave Notice of Motion 29 that on Tuesday, March 19, 1996 he would move the following resolution, seconded by Mr. Volpé:
WHEREAS the government is proposing major changes to the education system of this province;
WHEREAS all New Brunswickers have a vested interest in the success of our education system;
BE IT RESOLVED THEREFORE that the House resolve that the proposed reforms to our public education system be subject to public consultation through a special committee of the legislature prior to implementation.
The Order of the Day for resuming the adjourned debate on the motion (Motion 18),
That this House approves in general the budgetary policy of the government, having been read,
The debate was resumed,
And after some time, Mr. Speaker reminded Members to direct all comments through the chair.
And the debate continuing, after some time, on motion of Hon. Mr. Graham on behalf of Hon. Mrs. Breault, the consideration thereof was adjourned over.
After requesting Mr. Speaker revert to the order of Introduction of Bills, the following Bill was introduced and read the first time:

Bill 23, An Act to Amend the Schools Act.
And then, 12.22 o'clock p.m., the House adjourned.
