WHEREAS the New Brunswick Association of Physiotherapists wishes to change its name to the College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick;
AND WHEREAS the New Brunswick Association of Physiotherapists prays that it be enacted as hereinafter set forth;
THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:
1Section 1 of the Physiotherapy Act 1985, chapter 74 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1985, is amended
(a)by repealing the definition "Association";
(b)by adding after the definition "Board" the following:
"College" means College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick;
(c)in paragraph (b) of the definition "physiotherapy" and "physical therapy" by striking out "based upon a medical or dental diagnosis from the patient's medical or dental practitioner,".
2Section 2 of the Act is repealed and the following is substituted:
2(1)The New Brunswick Association of Physiotherapists heretofore incorporated by chapter 150, 9 Elizabeth II, 1960, as amended by chapter 74, 27 Elizabeth II, 1978 and as continued by chapter 74 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1985 shall continue under the name "College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick".
2(2)The College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick continues to be body corporate for the objects of:
(a)determining the eligibility of applicants to practice physiotherapy in the Province of New Brunswick and licensing qualified applicants;
(b)ensuring that all persons practising physiotherapy are duly registered under the Act; and
(c)establishing and enforcing standards for the practice of physiotherapy, including competence and ethics standards.
3The Act is amended by striking out "Association" wherever it appears therein, excepting the reference to "Association" as it appears in the definition "health professional", and substituting "College".
4If in any Act, other than this Act, or in any regulation, rule, order, by-law, agreement or other instrument or document, reference is made to the "New Brunswick Association of Physiotherapists" or any such abbreviation thereof, it shall be read as a reference to the "College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick".
