Ordered that the said Bills be read the second time at the next sitting.


The following Private Bill was introduced and read the first time:

Bill 51, An Act Respecting the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, N.B. & P.E.I. Division Inc.

Ordered referred to the Standing Committee on Private Bills.


The following Bills were introduced and read the first time:

Ordered that the said Bills be read the second time at the next sitting.


Hon. Mr. Betts, Minister of Finance, delivered to Mr. Speaker a Message from Her Honour the Lieutenant-Governor, and the said Message was read by Mr. Speaker, all the Members standing, and is as follows:

June 8, 2000.

The Lieutenant-Governor transmits the Supplement and Amendment to the Main Estimates 2000-2001 amending said Estimates and providing additional sums required for the services of the Province, not otherwise provided for, for the year ending March 31, 2001, and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution Act, 1867, recommends these Estimates to the House.

Hon. Mr. Green announced that it was the intention of government that the House resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole to consider legislation, in particular, Bills 37 (called for consideration pursuant to Standing Rule 44(3)), 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, and 34.

At the request of Hon. Mr. Green, it was agreed by unanimous consent to dispense with the order of Private Members' Motions for this sitting day.


The Order being read for second reading of Bill 45, An Act to Amend the Provincial Loans Act, a debate arose thereon.

And the debate being ended, and the question being put that Bill 45 be now read a second time, it was resolved in the affirmative.

Accordingly, Bill 45, An Act to Amend the Provincial Loans Act, was read a second time and ordered referred to the Committee of the Whole House.


The House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole with Mr. Ashfield in the chair.

And after some time, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair and Mr. Ashfield, the Chairman, after requesting Mr. Speaker revert to the Order of Presentations of Committee Reports, reported:

That the Committee had directed him to report the following Bills as agreed to:

Bill 37, An Act Respecting a Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace.

Bill 38, Degree Granting Act.
Bill 39, An Act to Repeal Unproclaimed Public Acts and Parts of Public Acts.
Bill 41, An Act to Amend the Interprovincial Subpoena Act.
Bill 42, An Act to Amend the Residential Tenancies Act.
Bill 43, Canadian Judgments Act.

That the Committee had directed him to report progress on the following Bill:

Bill 40, An Act to Amend the Trustees Act.

And the Committee asked leave to make a further report.

Pursuant to Standing Rule 78.1, Mr. Speaker put the question on the motion deemed to be before the House, that the report be concurred in, and it was resolved in the affirmative.


And then, 11.40 o'clock a.m., the House adjourned.
