An Act to Amend the Marriage Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:

1 Paragraph 2(2)(a) of the Marriage Act, chapter M-3 of the Revised Statutes, 1973, is repealed.

2 Subsection 4(2) of the French version of the Act is amended by striking out "du du paragraphe" and substituting "du paragraphe".

3 Subsection 5(1.2) of the French version of the Act is amended by adding a period after "registraire".

4 Paragraph 16(1)c) of the French version of the Act is amended by striking out "la cas" and substituting "le cas".

5 Section 20 of the French version of the Act is amended by striking out "peuvent, après síêtre assurés" and substituting "peut, après síêtre assurée".

EXPLANATORY NOTES

Section 1

The existing provision is as follows:

2(2) The Registrar may recognize a church or religious denomination for the purposes of paragraph (1)(b) where that church or religious denomination

(a) is duly incorporated under the laws of the Province or under the laws of Canada; and

(b) is, to the satisfaction of the Registrar, permanently established as to the continuity of its existence in accordance with the criteria prescribed by the regulations.
