An Act to Amend the Vital Statistics Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as follows:

1 The Vital Statistics Act, chapter V-3 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 1979, is amended by adding after section 40 the following:

40.01 Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, the Registrar General may, in accordance with the regulations, issue a certificate of birth without the payment of a fee for the certificate.

2 Section 52 of the Act is amended by adding after paragraph (g) the following:

(g.1) respecting the issuance of a certificate of birth without the payment of a fee;

3 The Act is amended by adding after section 52 the following:

52.1 Regulations made under paragraph 52(g.1) may be made retroactive in their operation.

4 This Act comes into force on May 1, 2000.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

Section 1

The Registrar General may in accordance with the regulations issue a certificate of birth without the payment of a fee.

Section 2

Regulation-making authority is expanded.

Section 3

Certain regulations may be made retroactive.
