Report of the Select Committee on the Revision of the Official Languages Act - JUNE 2013

The select committee on the revision of the Official Languages Act tabled its final report to the legislative assembly after receiving comments from the public.

The report makes 42 recommendations dealing with various aspects of the public service in the area of official languages, including the administration of justice; policing services; signage; and early childhood services.

A draft of the report was made public on April 25 to enable the public to submit comments on the recommendations. Persons had until May 17 to express their views. Thirty-nine comments were received.

The committee was composed of members from the government and the official Opposition of the legislative assembly. Established in June 2012, it received the mandate to undertake a revision of the Official Languages Act and to carry out consultations in this regard.
