FREDERICTON (CNB) - The ice movement warning is continued by River Watch 2008 and the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization on Monday, April 21, 2008.
Persons living or working along streams, tributaries and rivers in the northeastern portion of the province are asked to remain on alert for ice movement and possible ice jam formation. The ice movement warning for the St John river valley is discontinued.
Melting snow continues to increase water flows and water levels, especially in the middle and northern areas of the province.
Where ice covers remain they are continuing to weaken, and the increasing water flows are promoting the breakup of ice, and ice movement can occur at anytime. Areas currently free of ice could see additional ice from areas further north.
As of this morning, there were no ice accumulations or jams reported on the St. John river affecting roads or homes.
On the Restigouche River, the ice jam in Flatlands just west of Tide Head remains in place. The Restigouche River road has reopened after water levels dropped significantly. The Wyers brook road is closed to all traffic due to ice. No homes have been reported being impacted.
The next report will be issued on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
