Abstract: Sweet corn insect pests were monitored with pheromone traps at Maugerville and Sheffield areas in NB during 1996. Corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie), and fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), moths were trapped from 18 July to 23 September, the first and last sampling dates, respectively. Corn earworm moths were trapped at very low levels. Fall armyworm moths were trapped at periodically high levels from mid-August to early September. Trap captures of fall armyworm moths varied between locations. Monitoring techniques and data were conveyed to growers to encourage them and others to develop their own monitoring programs and adjust their spray regimes accordingly. This will minimize the unnecessary use of pesticides.
