Monitoring of Insect Populations in Potato Fields in 2003

Guy Bernard1

Abstract: Potato Flea Beetle damage in potato fields was generally very low during the 2003 growing season. Aphid populations were also very low. Green Peach aphids were not found feeding on potato plants in our monitored fields until the third week of August. Colorado Potato Beetle populations were low during the 2003 season although a small percentage of the fields monitored largely exceeded the economic threshold level. A noticeable increase over the previous year occurred in the numbers of adults, egg masses and larvae present in the fields during the month of August.
