SHIPPAGAN (CNB) - A new interactive website for the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre was launched today.
The website was developed and put online through a collaboration between the provincial government and the non-profit group Les Amis de l'Aquarium Inc. (friends of the aquarium).
"The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre is Atlantic Canada's largest aquarium," said Agriculture and Aquaculture Minister Ronald Ouellette. "The lively and educational nature of this new website will undoubtedly generate enthusiasm and curiosity among young Internet users, leading them to visit this magnificent tourism site."
Located in Shippagan, the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre opened in 1982 and welcomed its one-millionth visitor in August 2009.
"We are very grateful for the New Brunswick government's support in carrying out this major project," said Bernard Paulin, president of Les Amis de l'Aquarium. "We are thoroughly delighted with the quality of the product, which serves as a first-rate showcase for the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre and the Acadian Peninsula."
The website contains information about the education program for schools; children's activities; and the aquarium and its many marine species on display, including harbour seals, fish and invertebrates. It also features descriptions of the restaurant and gift shop; a calendar of activities; and numerous photos and videos.
The New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre is preparing for its 28th tourism season, which will run from May 30 to Sept. 25.
