FREDERICTON (CNB) - The expansion of the Marriott Lodging of Canada Customer Contact Centre in Fredericton will create 95 new jobs over the next four years, Premier Bernard Lord announced today.
Premier Lord, Investment and Export Minister, Peter Mesheau and Alain Piallat, president of Marriott Lodging of Canada, took part in the official opening ceremonies for the company's new facilities.
"This announcement is a good example of how government can help business by creating the proper environment to support business growth in every region of the province," Lord said. "It will create greater opportunity for this company to grow and to expand its operations in the province. "

"Our goal is to attract strong firms to grow this industry and Marriott has shown New Brunswick possesses the necessary elements to achieve success," Mesheau said.
"Marriott has made a commitment to long-term growth in Canada and as we expand our operations, our Fredericton based reservations and customer contact centre is now poised to embrace this expansion," Piallat said. "In the two short years since the Fredericton centre opened, we have seen an incredibly high level of service and commitment here from our New Brunswick associates. This superior level of professionalism combined with an excellent
telecommunications infrastructure will enable the centre to provide cost-effective and award-winning service, not only to our growing Canadian base but beginning today, to all our properties in Boston as well."
With this expansion, the company will employ a total of 149 people. The customer contact currently handles 2.2 million calls per year from all over North America. The company expects to increase the number of inbound calls to 2.5 million over the next three years.
The company is headquartered in Washington D.C., and has 153,000 employees and operates 2,200 hotels in 59 countries. Marriott was founded in 1932 by J. Willard Marriott and is now a publicly traded international company with sales in excess of $20 billion. It is now headed by J.W. Marriott Jr.
