SAINT JOHN (CNB) - TD Insurance Home and Auto will expand its Saint John operation which is expected to create 100 new jobs, Premier Shawn Graham announced today.
"Shortly after taking office, I travelled to Toronto and met with officials from TD to discuss growing their operation," Graham said. "Today's announcement is the result of hard work and developing strong partnerships with this firm. I am very pleased that TD has chosen New Brunswick for its expansion."
The premier was joined at the news conference by Frank McKenna, deputy chair at TD Bank Financial Group, Alain Thibault, president and CEO of TD Meloche Monnex Group, Business New Brunswick Minister Greg Byrne and Saint John Mayor Norm McFarlane.
"Our Saint John Client Service Centre is a key component in our national operations, providing support and oversight for other centres in our network," Thibault said. "The Saint John Client Service Centre currently handles over 750,000 calls annually. Thanks to the partnership of the Government of New Brunswick, the Saint John office will come to play an even more important role in the company's national operations."
TD Insurance Home and Auto is one of the two brands of TD Meloche Monnex Group. The provincial government will provide TD Insurance Home and Auto with a forgivable loan of $4,000 for each of the 100 jobs created at its Client Service Centre in Saint John. The centre employs more than 200 people.
"This is the second example in just the last week of how we are aggressively working to attract new investments to the province by building upon our strong relationships with established firms," Byrne said. "It is clear that TD is committed to the Saint John area and to New Brunswick. This is also another indication that the knowledge industry is strong and continues to grow as we see established centres continue to expand here in the province."
The TD Insurance Home and Auto's Saint John Client Service Centre is the amalgamated operation of the former Liberty Mutual Insurance Company Centre, established in 1998, and the Canada Trust/TD e-Bank Centre established in 1994. In 2004, Liberty Mutual Group sold its Canadian operations to TD Meloche Monnex Group, a member of TD Bank Financial Group.
"By partnering with companies like this we are demonstrating our government's commitment to the knowledge industry, and to the diversification of New Brunswick's economy," Graham said. "Continuing to make strategic investments and cultivating partnerships like this one today will help move us forward down the road to self-sufficiency."
With TD Insurance Home and Auto as one of its two brands, TD Meloche Monnex Group is the largest direct-response home and auto insurer in Canada, with close to one million clients, $1.8 billion in written premiums and more than 3,600 personnel.
